About Me
Hi! My name is Nicole Wilkey, I am the founder and speech language pathologist here at Way With Words, speech and language therapy. I grew up in Gilbert, AZ, enjoying the sunshine and water sports. I met my husband, James, in Provo, UT where I received my bachelor's degree in Communication Disorders from Brigham Young University. I then received my master's degree in Speech Language Pathology from Western Kentucky University. Half way through my master's program, James and I moved to Juneau, AK, which we now call home!

I love being able to do fun things in the outdoors such as hiking, wakesurfing on the lake, swimming, pickleball and skiing. I also enjoy handlettering, creating fun crafts for my house and baking delicious desserts! Family is also important to me, so I love spending time with my husband and family back in AZ.
I first discovered my interest for speech language pathology when I was a freshman in high school. My biology teacher had us make a five-year plan and for me, that included going to college. My parents and I thought I should seriously think about what I would want to study. I shadowed a dental hygienist and speech language pathologist (SLP) since those were careers I was interested in at the time. After shadowing the SLP, I fell in love with the idea of becoming a SLP because it combined two things I loved: working with children/teenagers and helping others. Believe it or not, the desire to become a SLP stuck with me throughout high school and college. Now, I am so excited to be starting my own private practice and that I have the opportunity to provide speech and language services to the wonderful people here in Alaska! I'm also thankful for the love and support of my husband, this dream would not be possible without all of his help!
